Elektromotoren und Gerätebau Barleben GmbH (EMB GmbH) was founded in 1863, originally as a sugar factory. Prior to the company’s adoption of its present form of ownership when it was privatised in 1993, it had a turbulent history.

In addition to producing special drives and electronic ballasts, we have specialised primarily in the manufacture of protection devices for liquid-cooled and liquid-insulated appliances. Our decades-long experience in the development and manufacture of Buchholz relays in particular has enabled us to carve out a reputation as one of the leading companies in the sector.
